To determine the 2020 Best Workplaces for Parents list, Great Place to Work® analyzed confidential survey feedback representing more than 4.8 million US employees.
Parents and non-parents responded to over 60 survey questions describing the extent to which their organization creates a Great Place to Work For All™. Eighty-five percent of the evaluation is based on what parents say about their experiences of trust and reaching their full human potential at work, no matter who they are or what they do. Our analysis focuses on parents' feedback, analyzing how their workplace experiences compare to those of their non-parent colleagues and determining whether their job level, race/ethnicity or any other personal characteristic changed the level of support they received as a working parent. The remaining fifteen percent are based on how parenting status influenced other aspects of employees’ work experience, including their experience of the company living up to its values, people’s opportunities to innovate, and the effectiveness of their leaders. Finally, we took into account each company’s parental leave, adoption, flexible schedule, child care and dependent health care benefits.
To be considered, companies had to meet the Great Place to Work-Certified standard and have at least 50 responses from parents. Companies were also required to respond to a supplemental survey concerning conception-related benefits and how they are supporting working parents during the pandemic. To ensure survey results truly represent all employees, Great Place to Work requires that Trust Index© survey results are accurate to a 95% confidence level with a 5% margin of error or better. We review any anomalies in survey responses, news and financial performance to ensure there aren’t any extraordinary reasons to believe we couldn’t trust a company’s survey results.
